Bowen House

Nestled deep in the heart of Uptown, a 140+ year old structure stands.  It is unassuming and it isn’t until your foot hits that first step up towards the patio that you realize that this house is very different from the rest.  With a historical marker that acts as an official greeting to guests, Bowen House truly is a reminder of the great things of times past.

Once a farm-house to Ahab Bowen who owned and cultivated the surrounding area in the mid-1800’s, Bowen House has transformed itself into an 1800’s style saloon that manages to pay homage to the original building owner but stay swanky and chic at the same time.

When Bowen House first opened back in early 2014, the focus was really on creating a strong bar program.  Utilizing vintage glasses, hard to find spirits, freshly shaved ice and more, Bowen House quickly rose the ranks as a great place for Uptown 20-somethings to go out and drink late into the evening.  While the cocktail program continues to chug along at an elite pace, during a recent visit, I couldn’t help but notice that Bowen House has, well, grown up.  With educated bartenders who take time and precision to carefully craft each cocktail to your particular preferences and liking and the addition of a fabulous food menu, Bowen House now, in my opinion, caters to a wider audience. Sure, it is still a very popular hang out with those 20-somethings but now it also is a comfortable place to go on a date, to perform business dealings, to meet friends for happy hour or to grab a delicious bite to eat.

I am so thrilled about Bowen House‘s continued success and the fact they seem to have really found their identity within the Dallas restaurant and bar scene that I am a bit conflicted because, while I want to let you all in on the scoop (after all, isn’t that why you are here?), I selfishly want to keep Bowen House my own little secret as it quickly moved to the top of my rankings after my last visit a few weeks back.

I find myself coming up with excuses to visit, craving their incredible dishes and looking at the pictures that I have taken there, over and over again.  Isn’t that the recipe for a great establishment?

Here is a peek at some of my favorites from Bowen House:

Needless to say, there are so many other fabulous items here at Bowen House that will win anybody over. I am yet to have something here that I didn’t fall in love with and that is saying a lot because..well, I’m a picky bitch.

The menu is listed below for your drooling pleasure. You’ll thank my later, I promise.
