By now you have surely seen the buzz about Uptown’s latest hot spot, Next Door, and, if you follow me on social media, (which, if you don’t already we definitely need to have a chat about that later) you know that I am personally a big fan as well.
Located right in the heart of Uptown, near the hustle and bustle of McKinney Avenue, Next Door offers SO much more than those shitty neighbors that actually live next door to you.
With a cozy dining area, a killer patio that overlooks Uptown’s finest, great music and an even better menu, Next Door just might be your new favorite hangout. Enjoy an intimate dinner downstairs or chill with friends in an upstairs that reminds me all too much of a treehouse…but with alcohol! Whatever the scenario, Next Door offers drinks that you will be begging to imbibe in, food that you won’t be able to resist and a general atmosphere that will make you plan your next visit before you even leave.
Speaking of the delicious adult beverages and food, let’s discuss some of my personal favorites, shall we?
First, let’s wet our whistles with the insanely delicious Pineapple Habanero Margarita. With the perfect amount of kick, this drink somehow still manages to be smooth enough to drink at an appropriate pace..or chug, whatever. With that piece of pineapple crown as garnish, this cocktail is an immediate photo opp, too!
Now, I’m about ready to blow your mind so I really hope you all are ready for this. GRILLED CHEESE AND TOMATO SOUP DUMPLINGS. Yep, I said it. Yes, they are as good as they sound and look. Actually, fuck it. They are better. They are what I imagine stumbling upon a real life unicorn feels like. These little bites of heaven could not be more delicious if they tried and they are topped with bacon which is just the ultimate icing on the cake, right?
As an aside, there wasn’t a single thing at Next Door that I didn’t absolutely love. Every cocktail and every dish was fantastic but for the sake of time and for the sake of playing favorites (a game in which I am VERY good at), I had to narrow it down, y’all!
With that said, another favorite of mine were the Cajun Crab Cakes. I was immediately intrigued with these little bites for two reasons, one because of the delicious looking nugget of crawfish resting on top and secondly, because these crab cakes were rolled into balls and not pounded into the traditional patties we see so often. Served with fresh remoulade, these are not to be missed!
A few other items that I HIGHLY suggest that you try out during your visit to Next Door are the Tuna Poke Nachos, Lemon Pesto Spaghetini (not a typo!) and the Bi-Fries which are a mixture of regular skinny fries and sweet potato fries which makes them incredibly addicting.
Last but definitely not least, be sure to cap off your experience with Next Door’s Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches. Um, yeah. If the name doesn’t already tell you everything you need to know, this picture most certainly will:
All in all, I think it is very safe to say that Next Door will be seeing my face quite a bit. With the charm of an intimate Manhatten bar, a patio that only the Uptown scene can provide and great food and drinks to boot, this place is a winner in my book!
